First Responders and Families Seminar 2024

“It’s OK to not be OK”
mental health support for first responders and their families

More law enforcement officers die by suicide than are killed in the line of duty. It is time we educate first responders on the debilitating effects of PTSD and other mental health issues associated with traumas experienced in their profession.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department is proud to offer our annual seminar targeting first responders, staff and families to break the walls associated with mental health. It’s time we start the conversation and engage our fellow first responders.

This 2-day wellness seminar is open to first responders and their families.

Guests will learn the signs and symptoms associated with stress, anxiety and depression. Information and advice regarding financial planning, health and nutrition will also be available. You will begin to build the shield of armor for how to manage those symptoms that enable a long successful marriage, career and life. Because “it’s OK to not be OK.”

Presented by the Cape Girardeau Police Department in partnership with Beyond the Badge family support group.

Post hours are available through SEMO Law Enforcement Academy.

We have a full lineup of speakers ready to educate, break down barriers and make us laugh.

This is not an easy subject and we have been “raised” to put our emotions in a box, to accept it is part of the job, to attempt to not relive what we have experienced. Yet, we all know this is not the right way to deal with any type of PTSD or stress-related incident. This seminar just might be the first step in moving your department toward a more positive environment for mental health.
